Chelating Resins

DIAION™ CHELATING RESIN SERIES

It is known that ions of transition and alkaline earth metals or some kinds of anionic species tend to form complexes by coordination with certain types of compounds called “ligand.” Chelating resins are designed to catch certain types of ions by this phenomena. DIAION™ chelating resins have such grades as follows:

DIAION™ CR11

DIAION™ CR11 has an iminodiacetic acid group as a chelating ligand which is bonded onto a highly porous crosslinked polystyrene matrix. DIAION™ CR11 shows a high affinity for alkaline earth and transition metal ions, and the selectivity is similar to that of ethylene diamine tetra-acetic acid (EDTA).

The selectivity order of DIAION™ CR11 for metal ions is as follows:

Cr3+ > In3+ > Fe3+ > Ce3+ > Al3+ > La3+ > Hg2+ > UO2+ > Cu2+ > VO2+ > Pb2+ > Ni2+ > Cd2+ > Cd2+ > Zn2+ > Co2+ > Fe2+ > Mn2+ > Be2+ > Ca2+ > Mg2+ > St2+

Adsorbed metal ions can be eluted with an acid, and the resin can be reused after regeneration with caustic alkali.

The most typical application of DIAION™CR11 is the secondary purification of brine in Chlor-soda electrolysis plants. DIAION™ can remove a small number of alkaline earth metals (Ca2+, Mg2+, St2+) from a highly concentrated sodium chloride solution.

DIAION™ CR20

DIAION™ CR20 has a polyamine group as a chelating ligand which is bonded onto a highly porous crosslinked polystyrene matrix. DIAION™ CR20 shows a high affinity for transition metal ions but does not adsorb alkali, alkaline earth, and Sn, Zr, Th, Al, Fe(II) ions.

The selectivity order of DIAION™ CR20 for metal ions is as follows:

Hg2+ > Fe3+ > Cu2+ > Zn2+ > Cd2+ > Ni2+ > Co2+ > Ag+ > Mn2+

Adsorbed metal ions can be eluted with an acid, and the resin can be reused after regeneration with caustic alkali.

DIAION™ CRB03, CRB05

DIAION™ CRB03 and CRB05 are special chelating resin with glucamine groups based on a high porous styrene-DVB matrix. It has high selectivity for borate ions.

It is used for borate separation from various solutions, including brine and seawater.
